“On the one hand, we are active in the E-Mobility sector, i.e. as a supplier. And clearly also in the aerospace sector, which is the largest part of the conversion. And then there's also the energy sector, which means very different segments! And coordinating this as the person responsible is of course an exciting challenge.” (Thomas Schwella, Director ESG, Montana Aerospace)
Challenges
“What does ESG involve? Essentially everything and nothing. Which topics does it cover on a small scale, which on an international level, in other words all these question marks. That's the topic that concerns me the most. If you don't really know all the issues in advance and in full detail, then it becomes difficult to formulate fears or risks.” (Thomas Schwella, Director ESG, Montana Aerospace)
The Group, like all other companies, is facing considerable challenges, relevant to EU Taxonomy and allocating capital expenditure, operating expenses and revenue across the globally distributed subsidiaries. The diversity of the business areas, the different controlling structures and time zones were the main drivers of complexity. In particular, the collection of relevant data and ensuring a coordinated flow of data represented a major challenge and a particular requirement for project management. The identification of key players in the company with the relevant technical knowledge, as required by the EU Taxonomy, as well as their onboarding and offboarding in the process required a very high level of coordination.
Solution
To solve the challenges, the Montana Aerospace and VIRIDAD team relied on a combination of the VIRIDAD Your ESG Roadmap and VIRIDAD Your ESG Solution (combination of software and consulting). After a successful business screening, the necessary knowledge of the EU Taxonomy was disseminated in an expert learning session - a half-day workshop with learning and application elements - using specific case studies.
Thanks to the experience of our experts, we were able to find the fastest way!
In this way, the relevant employees at Montana Aerospace were effectively picked up and introduced to the project. The implementation of the EU Taxonomy was based on a clear methodology for the allocation of investments, operating costs and turnover, which was then adapted for each division. The approach was systematically introduced to achieve a consistent methodology across the organization.
VIRIDADs' experience with other international companies was crucial in identifying and counteracting problems before they occurred.
".. the reliability and also this proactive approach of reminding us of certain things and bringing in new topics was really helpful. I found that very positive and rather atypical for an external partnership. But it makes working on a new topic so much easier!" (Thomas Schwella, Director ESG, Montana Aerospace)
Your EU Taxonomy Software makes the process much easier
The intuitive Your EU Taxonomy software was particularly helpful throughout the process and the implemented role-rights model was successful in acquiring the data and managing the data flow.
Result
The project resulted in repeatable processes for compliance with the EU Taxonomy, enabling the Group to better understand its sustainability impact. With a solid framework in place, the company has achieved greater clarity in the reporting and allocation of financial KPIs and has created a solid foundation for future compliance. The new system enables faster data collection, better communication with internal stakeholders and more accurate assessments, which ultimately supports strategic decision-making and compliance across all divisions, even in a dynamic environment.
“For us, of course, it was the best result. When we combine two things, namely speed and efficiency, this is always crucial and decisive for a company. And I think we achieve this very, very well with the software solution. I can also report from practical experience that we usually get direct feedback from the divisions, which is really positive.” ... This means that the user knows what they have to do. And that's also crucial for me, of course!” (Thomas Schwella, Director ESG, Montana Aerospace)
